Labor day long weekend 2008

This labor day long weekend I've decided to take my Honda S2000 out for a spin. I thought I see Washington D. C., the capital city of the U. S. of A. on this beautiful Saturday.

Thanks to my best friend Tony for this nice car.

There Will Be Blood (2007)

Spoilers ahead.

From the director of Punch Drunk Love (2002) (interesting), an Oscar contender and armed with a 8.x imdb rating, I thought There Will Be Blood (2007) would be an amazing film. I was of course disappointed.

Lead actor Daniel Day-Lewis undoubtedly delivered a superb performance but the lack of dialogues without the supplement of inspiring imagery or score makes this film a unnecessarily boring experience. Characters are predictable and there is no twist in the plot. Director Paul Thomas Anderson did manage to paint a disturbed and anguish infested oil tycoon struggling with his inner conflicts but most scenes are redundant and don't add anything to the storyline or the character building. Afterall a nut job this out of whack ain't call for 158 minutes to portrait, he hates people, I get it, cut to the bowling lanes already.

Me and Patrick Star

Yesterday was company picnic day at Great America Theme Park at Santa Clara. There were free beers which I don't drink, under seasoned ribs and rather tough roasted chicken breasts. I rode on the roller coaster and took a picture with Patrick Star.

Thanks Charan for the picture.

Thoughts from the medals

Have you ever come out of a highly recommended movie disappointed?

Born with one arm, that sucks, but why? Can't do this and that with one arm? What about being born with three or four arms, that better?

I watched the Olympics men's gymnastics last night and the women's just now. What a difference in the US teams' mood. The men didn't even get a silver.

So it is all about expectations isn't it (or at least a big part of it).

I am so wise.

2008 Beijing Olympics is a trap

It's obvious and there are plenty of evidence. The 2008 Beijing Olympics is actually a trap created by the government.

My new menu item III - "Seafood" pasta

Afterall, pasta is still my specialty.

I was at the supermarket the other day and picked up a pack of cooked "seafood" on sale because of its pressing expiration day. It had some mussels, squids, clams, some unknown fish and some tiny shrimps in it. That would be a quick dinner fix I thought.

I let them simmer in a pan at medium...

... added (garlic pepper) salt and water, which was wise because even though they cry a little, the extra liquid is needed later when I poured in the pasta (vermicelli) and half a can of cream of whatever.

After heating everything up, I drizzled on it some sesame oil, which has more flavor than your everyday EVOO.

Consider how quickly it could be done, that was pretty okay.

My new menu item II.V - French bread (the day after)

Party's over, plates and glasses waiting to be washed; food left there to rot.

And then there comes the mold.

I don't believe it, the weather is so dry here, still molds manage to popup, even in the fridge. And it's hard to imagine how they attain such good surface coverage.

Yes, this is my loaf of french bread. Even them "go green".

My new menu item II - French bread pizza

Well, I like pizza, so why not make it myself. First I dice up finely some pork and fry them well done.

Then I slice the french bread and spread some pasta sauce (and some garlic paste) on top.

I cover the top with cheese (Kraft singles shown, again, works fine, but otherwise shredded cheddar works better) and add chopped onions and ham bits (bacon bits work better) or what not.

Then I sprinkle on my pork bits (could have been chicken shreds) and drizzle some italian seasoning, which is really what gives it that pizza flavor.

Toast it lightly and voi la, Sunday lunch (need to make a couple more).
