The Rosetta stone

So my mom and I were at the world famous British Museum. It was quite a treat. Too bad it closed early on the day we were there, and we took a wrong turn to get there, wasted lots of precious time.

The most important piece of exhibit, arguably, would be the Rosetta Stone. My mom's been there before, but she didn't remember seeing it. She remembered the very big pharaoh fist alright.

We scrambled the vast Egyptian room, back and forth for 10 minutes looking for the Rosetta Stone but couldn't find it and gave up. There are plenty to see in the Assyrian, Egyptian, etc rooms. Just by the time we were about to leave, there it was, encased by a curious crowd, that's why we missed it earlier.

Its importance comes from the fact that it contains essentially the same text, written in three different languages (not sure which), enabling linguists to decipher some earlier unknown glyphs.
