Honda CR-V Clock Repair

Just a month earlier I shelled out $800 and waited 5 hours to have my radiator fixed at the dealer. I thought that was an awful deal, so I decided to fix this one myself. It was surprisingly easy.
I shoved a wide blade putty knife into underneath the vent assembly at the dash. I paid $7 for this over priced putty knife at Home Depot just for this purpose, which I thought was well worth it because I tried using flat head screw drivers to no avail.

As soon as I pried it, the assembly popped right out. It was amazingly easy. I thought it would be a tug-o-war but no, it was dying to pop out. It was held in place by four v-shaped brackets. As soon as they cleared the groove under I could pull the assembly out.

Disconnecting the wires from behind was a different story, turned out that was the hardest part of all. You just have to be patient.

I unscrewed the clock component...

... and unsnapped the back white part of the module to reveal the electronics.

It was a cracked solder joint. That explained why it went on and off. So I heated up the joint with a soldering iron and glued a bit of solder on. Put everything back together and inserted it back to the dash.

Voi la, my car is time-telling again. Though the down side is, no more excuse to be late...
