District 9 (2009)

Spoiler warning!


My opinion? I was disappointingly pleased.

District 9 (2009) was hailed to be the best sci-fi flick of the decade, so naturally I expected alot. But as always, every time I go to a "critically acclaimed" movie, I walk out disappointed. This time is no exception.

The singular plot was surprisingly predictable, blend and unconvincing (Why didn't Christopher remote controll the mother ship to beam up the command module earlier?) The lack of characters and parallel story lines didn't help either.

But I liked the movie, if not because concept was fresh and original, flying saucers, aliens, robots, are hard to foul up. You've got beautifully CG'ed life like aliens, victims to root for, villains to boo at, it was very entertaining and worth my time and my popcorn.

One thing though I don't think I am looking forward to the sequel. Yes, there will be a sequel. Oh come on, with that ending you're gonna argue with me?

Prophecy, busted?

Five years ago, to the date, I was at Wells Fargo (bank), making a deposit. A loud redneck was telling the next teller how he called the authroities before the Trade centers fell, and that more importantly, he knew that the world was going to end within 5 years.

This afternoon, I received a reminder email I sent myself that day about that incident. Oh well, I am half disappointed. I didn't believe it for a second, but it is amusing nonetheless.
